Will Insurance Cover Varicose Vein Treatment?
One of the most common questions we hear is, “Does insurance cover varicose vein treatment?” The answer is often yes, but with conditions. Most insurance companies will cover varicose vein treatments if the procedure is deemed medically necessary. Your doctor will typically perform a physical exam and an ultrasound to determine if your varicose veins require treatment. If the procedure is labeled cosmetic, insurance likely won’t cover it. However, insurance usually covers varicose vein treatment when there are documented symptoms, such as:
- Pain, swelling, or aching in the legs
- Skin ulcers or discoloration
- Blood clots or other complications
