Arizona Vein and Laser Institute Treats Vascular Conditions

Most vascular conditions are highly treatable when found in the early stages. Vascular conditions affect your veins and arteries, often blocking blood flow and causing discomfort and swelling. Your veins and arteries transport oxygen to the living cells in your body, so it’s critical they’re working as well as possible. The Arizona Vein and Laser Institute treat vascular conditions in Phoenix, AZ and the surrounding areas with our innovative testing and services. We’ll determine the best type of treatment to fit your needs and ensure your veins and arteries are working properly. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.

Diagnosing Vascular Issues

We use effective diagnostic strategies, including state-of-the-art vascular ultrasound technology, to find a customized treatment for your vascular condition. Our ultrasound technology allows us to view your circulatory system in detail to accurately find blockages, blood clots, and any other vein issues. Once we pinpoint the vascular problem, we’ll determine the best treatment method. We perform our treatments at our state-of-the-art vascular labs.

Atherectomy

We use an atherectomy procedure to remove the fatty plaque from your vein and artery walls. The fatty plaque builds up and forms deposits that restrict blood flow. We use a sharp-tip catheter to safely scrape the plaque buildup and store the removed particles in a small chamber. The arteries are completely clean, allowing adequate blood flow. Atherectomy is our preferred method for areas that are extremely hard to reach.

Angioplasty

An angioplasty procedure is done with a balloon-tipped catheter inserted into a narrow or blocked artery. The balloon expands as it’s guided through the vein, improving blood flow and increasing the opening of the vein. The minimally invasive procedure is one of the best to open blocked veins. Patients remain awake as we perform the procedure.

Angioplasty With Stent Placement

When an angioplasty cannot reopen a vein on its own, a patient may require an angioplasty with stent placement. This small mesh tube is left in your artery to help prevent collapse and blood clots from forming. A stent is much less invasive than heart surgery and highly effective. In some cases, we coat the stents with a slow-release medicine to help prevent blood clots.

Arterial Wound Care and Evaluation

Vascular issues sometimes present themselves as open wounds. If you’ve suffered from non-healing wounds for an extended amount of time, we’ll perform an evaluation to find the root of the problem. We can dry and close the wound in many cases after resolving the issue. We may also recommend using compression bandages, antibiotics, and dressings.

Vascular Treatment FAQs

Vascular disease is any condition that affects your veins and arteries, potentially restricting blood flow. Vascular disease treatment varies depending on the severity and condition. Options include lifestyle changes, minimally invasive procedures like angioplasty, and surgical interventions such as atherectomy or bypass surgery. Our specialists ensure customized care based on your specific needs.

Minimally invasive vascular treatments, including angioplasty and stent placement, provide faster recovery times, smaller incisions, and reduced risks compared to traditional surgery. These treatments are effective at improving blood flow and relieving symptoms, often allowing patients to return to their daily activities quickly.

Our specialists use advanced diagnostic tools like vascular ultrasound to identify problems such as blood clots, arterial blockages, or other issues. This non-invasive imaging helps pinpoint the specific area needing treatment, enabling us to develop the most effective care plan for you.

Vascular laser treatments are often used for smaller vascular conditions, such as spider veins or certain varicose veins. These treatments may not be suitable for more severe vascular problems like significant arterial blockages. We offer comprehensive vascular services to determine the best treatment for you.

Vascular disease can be fatal, so it’s important to stay ahead of it. When left untreated, it can lead to severe complications, including chronic pain, non-healing wounds, infections, or life-threatening conditions like deep vein thrombosis or stroke. The best ways to help prevent severe issues are early diagnosis and treatment.

Yes, most patients resume daily light activities after minimally invasive procedures, such as angioplasty. Heavy exercise is generally avoided for a short period afterward. Our team will provide personalized post-treatment guidelines to ensure a smooth recovery.

Monitoring of carotid artery blockages is crucial, typically done through periodic ultrasounds. While many blockages can be managed without immediate intervention, a severe blockage significantly raises the risk of a stroke. In such cases, treatment becomes necessary to mitigate this risk. Options include surgical procedures or the placement of a stent, depending on the specific nature of your condition and other medical considerations. For non-severe blockages, medications may be prescribed to lower the stroke risk by controlling the inflammatory responses associated with the blockage, though these do not stop the blockage from progressing over time.

Vascular treatment recovery varies depending on the type of treatment. Minimally invasive treatments like angioplasty often allow patients to return home the same day and resume normal activities within a few days. More complex surgeries may require longer recovery periods and follow-up care.

Veins treated during procedures like laser ablation or surgical removal do not grow back. New veins can sometimes develop over time through alternative pathways. Regular follow-ups with your specialist help monitor long-term results and address any new concerns.

The right vascular treatment depends on your specific condition, overall health, and personal needs. Our specialists use advanced diagnostic tools and a personalized approach to recommend the most effective solution for your vascular issue.
